3 DAYS CITY BREAK IN CURTEA DE ARGES TOUR ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Bucharest - Pitesti - Curtea de Arges
(Breakfast and dinner included)
After meet with our staff, we will depart for Curtea de Arges via Pitesti. The tourists who visit this county have to go to see The Princely Church, built by the Basarab family in the XIV-th century as a Byzantine classical church, is a valuable Romanian mediaeval monument of art and architecture. Here are frescos from those different periods of times but the most valuable is the one dating back from rulers Vladislav I Vlaicu and Radu I.

Also we will visit The Transfagarasan highway, the grandest work of this kind in Romania, is situated at 2, 034 m above sea level, with a tunnel of 845 m long under the Negoiu and Moldoveanu Peaks, is a wonderful way with a picturesque view over the Arges Valley.
Located at the end of a boulevard with hundred of years old linden trees, Curtea de Arges Monastery is the most important pilgrimage and prayer place in the county of Arges, with the Assumption of the Virgin as its dedication day. Before we transfer to your hotel, we will visit The ruins of the royal court which is dating from the 13th century, and of which two boyar house cellars are well preserved, are to be found in the centre of the town. Dinner and overnight in Curtea de Arges.

Day 2 - Curtea de Arges - Vidraru Dam

Today we will have a day trip to Vidraru Lake. Located on the bank of the Arges River, between the slopes of Pleasa and Vidraru Mountains, along Transfagarasan Road, at about 40 kilometers far from Curtea de Arges, Vidraru Dam is considered by specialists a real jewelry of engineering. It was built, with many human sacrifices (about 80 persons lost their lives during its construction) between 1961 and 1966. The accumulation lake, with a water accumulation volume of 465 million cubic meters, has 10, 3 km in length, and a maximum width of 2, 2 kilometers. The power station is in the underground, in the Cetatuia Massif, at 104 meters depth. At the completion date, it ranked 5th in Europe, and 9th in the world. At the end of the dam, one can take left to Cumpana Depression. Tourists can climb to Belvedere platform to admire the beautiful landscape. At the end of the tour, transfer back to your hotel. The rest of the day is leisure. Dinner and overnight in Curtea de Arges.

Day 3 - Curtea de Arges - Poenari Fortress - Bucharest

Today we will return back to Bucharest. On our way back, we will stop for a visit to Poenari Fortress. It is a former residence of Vlad Tepes (also called Dracula), built as a fortress against the Ottoman invaders. There is a road of over 1000 steps that leads to the fortress. The Fortress was mentioned for the first time in a document from 1453. During that period the fortification considered mainly in the rectangular tower added later to the fortress built there by Vlad The Impaler. In the Documents of the Office of Vallachia, the fortification appears only in 1481. The legend mentions that Dracula, wanting to punish the tradesmen from Targoviste, took them in the Easter Day, well dressed up as they were, and forced them to help to the building of the fortress. The very short time, only one week, in wich they built The Poienari Fortress, is evidently exaggerated. Although it is just a ruin, one can take photos of the Vidraru Dam and Fagaras Mountains. Extreme sensations lovers say that this is the meeting place of vampires. Upon arrival Bucharest, we should say goodbye to you.
