1 Day Troy & Assos Cultural Tour from Eceabat

This tour is a day tour which departs from Eceabat or Canakkale and takes the participants to visit the Ancient City Troia and Assos, Turkish village for visiting the history, the lifestyle and culture of Turkish people.

Tour Itinerary

1.   Day -Troy Assos Tour from Eceabat

Early morning departure form Eceabat where you will cross the famous Dardanelle waters & proceed to the ancient site of Troy, 36km south of Canakkale. Our local english speaking guide will tour you around the 9 city ruins on the site of Troy explaining the people from the era, their houses & culture & the reason for the final destruction of each city. The commentary is filled with mythical stories of the site & surrounding areas while filling you in on the history of the excavations, the excavators & their findings.

At the site you’ll be shown around:

·         A replica of the wooden horse that you can climb into for a photo.

·          Excavation information centre which holds exhibits from the work underway.

·          The fortification walls of Troy Vl with its tower & gateway entrance.

·          Temple of Athena - the focal point of a great annual festival in honour of the goddess Athena.

·          Schliemann’s trench - the discoverer of Troy?

·          The entrance ramp to Troy ll.

·          The sanctuary - an important religious centre of its time.

·          The odeon - intended for the presentation of musical performances.

·          Current excavations in progress.

11:00 We continue to Assos Behramkale

      First stop is in Ayvacik - a small non touristic town with a great Friday market where you can buy all sorts of local produce, fruit & vegetables & handicrafts. You’ll have plenty of time to wander around & maybe even pick up a few bargains! You will have a pleasant choice of local foods which you may buy for your lunch.

·         Depart for Assos. A traditional stone house village set upon a mountainside with a beautiful harbour down the bottom, overlooking the island of Lesvos. Here we will tour the Temple of Athena on the highest point of the mountain & have Turkish tea at a local Cay (tea) House which has an extraordinary set of coffee tables to sit at. 

·         Late afternoon departure for Local Village. Here you will wander the traditional village seeing sights such as the old wheat crushing wheel & the thatched summer houses for the sheep.  

·          Late evening departure for Eceabat. Anyone wishing to go southbound may be dropped off at the bus station in Ayvacik for an onward bus journey.

At the end of the tour return to hotel. Drop off at hotel back and this will be the end of the tour.
